Dinkin’ Around Again

Lazy cruisers … that’s us… so we put the dinghy back in the water and went dinghy riding this afternoon… trying to find a spot outside the channel that supposedly has a few coral heads and is great hogfish spearing territory.  But alas, no hogfish for dinner.   Last night, we watched a successful spearfisherman clean several hogfish,  but no specifics because he’d have to kill us.  We’ll find it, just not today….

The dinghy waits patiently as we explore.

Since we couldn’t find the spot, we dinghied over to the “sand bar” off Boca Chica (the naval air station).  It’s a popular place and it’s easy to see why.

The dog in the photo with David was busy chasing a small eagle ray and a small nurse shark around the sand bar.  It was fun walking for a longer distance than I imagined in ankle deep clear blue water.

Maybe soon we won’t be so lazy and actually sail our boat away.  Or maybe not….    🙂

Much envy, Jan! But progress is being made here too – the survey of our possible new-to-us boat is scheduled for Sunday! Boca Chica is definitely on the list of possible stops once we get down there! Fingers crossed.

And now I’m really curious – where are you anchored? Looks like a lovely spot…

      • Hi Keith! Actually we’re not anchored right now … worse luck. We’re in Stock Island Marina. That’s why I called us “lazy cruisers”. But there are boats anchored in Boca Chica Channel, it’s relatively shallow. We sounded it in the dinghy and don’t think we could get out of the channel to anchor with our 5 1/2 ft draft. There are also boats anchored just outside Safety Harbor/Stock Island channel, but it’s only protected from the N & NE and they seem to be rolling most times we’re out there.

    • Congratulations! We’re keeping our fingers crossed that all goes well with the survey! Cheers — J
