Sailing across the Great Bahamas Banks can be a challenge for smaller sailboats like Winterlude. The water is 7-15 feet, very shallow and scattered with coral heads, making sailing at night not really an option. Because we can’t make it all the way across in daylight, we have to drop the anchor in the middle of this gorgeous zillions of square miles swimming pool and spend the night. Because we have to anchor, light winds are preferable to better sailing winds. So we’re motorsailing, but it was a gorgeous motorsail!
