ALL Loopers are happy to be off the rivers and even happier to be along the Gulf Coast with its white sugar sands and fun, we’re all celebrating. Too much fun to take time to write a real blog post – it’s the looper lifestyle. Here are a few photos from this week….
There are SO many good anchorages, sand and mud bottom, great holding and great fun ashore. Beachcombing & paddleboarding have been our two favorites along this coastline. Even if you don’t like anchoring, be sure to pick a couple calm days and anchor off this Gulf National Seashore… dinghy or paddle ashore and immerse yourself in nature.
Gorgeous sunsets, great paddleboarding, craft breweries, the infamous Flora-Bama Lounge, visiting Fairhope (and learning to 2 Step with friends on Texas 2 Step that crossed their wake in Orange Beach), hiking in Gulf State Park, even running errands was better with friends.
Other sights along the Gulf ICW included shrimp boats heading out and fishing boats accompanied by birds hoping for a feast…
Beachcombing is one of my favorite pastimes … we found many shells, including 2 rare Scotch Bonnets – the North Carolina State Shell – last time I checked we are NOWHERE near North Carolina… and I couldn’t find one in North Carolina, so why am I finding them now? All good!
Oh yes, did I mention dramatic sunsets?
HAPPY THANKSGIVING to all! Loopers on the Gulf Coast are all scrambling to find a spot to celebrate Thanksgiving. There’s a big gathering at The Wharf in Orange Beach, but few to no marinas left between Pensacola and Apalachicola — and those that still exist are full with all the displaced boats from Hurricane Michael. We’ll figure out something, we just don’t know exactly what yet….
Cheers! Jan & David, aboard Optimystique near Santa Rosa Island, Gulf National Seashore.
