T-Minus 5 Days & Counting … Great Loop, Here We Come!

Dolphins frolic in Optimystique's bow wake as we leave Twin Dolphin Marina, Bradenton.

Optimystique waits patiently (?)  in Punta Gorda, Florida as we attend to last minute details before we can actually leave on The Great Loop … silly things like driving our truck back to Illinois so we can fly back.

Shipping a bunch of stuff back to the boat – things we didn’t realize we’d need when we last left the house back in October … when we didn’t own a boat and were planning to spend the winter in our (since sold) travel trailer.

When I think back over the past 5 months, it’s been a whirlwind from contemplating a possible Great Loop adventure, admiring a boat that wasn’t for sale at Joe Wheeler State Park, six weeks later moving aboard that same boat, selling our travel trailer and getting the boat ready to depart on The Great Loop.  Life moves fast sometimes!

This is the final step. Leaving the truck in Illinois, flying back to the boat.  Since Allegiant (the cheap airline) doesn’t fly every day, we have to wait until Wednesday to fly back. Thursday we’ll provision fresh stuff, everything else is already aboard and waiting.  Today is Sunday … seems like forever: where did “life moves fast” go?

T-Minus 5 days … weather depending, of course!

    • Hi Sterling! Unfortunately this trip we’re bypassing the Keys & headed across the Okeechobee Waterway. We’ve been to the Keys countless times in the past in our sailboat, s/v Winterlude. We’ll miss you this time, but hopefully next winter will be a different story! THANKS! Cheers – Jan
