What Will the Last 10 Years of Your Life Look Like?
We spent Christmas at my Dad's lifecare center. Some of the age 90+ folks are having a blast and some look like mere shadows of what I'm sure used to be fun people. A sailing friend posted this public service announcement: "What Will The Last 10 Years of Your Life Look Like?". I don't normally share other resources, but this one hits home.
“Old Florida” Barrier Islands
We've written several posts about the barrier islands over the years, mostly because we see more nature here than we did for the years we were cruising the Western Caribbean. It's the beaches, shells, sea turtles, bottle nose dolphins, manatees, white pelicans & all the other critters that make this place special for us, even if it's not the gin clear water and snorkeling every day cruising that I fell in love with in the W Caribbean.
Plug The Drain Hole? Duh!
A BIG thank you to Jim, for pointing out the obvious in our refrigerator insulation project. Duh!
Best Cheeseburger in Paradise?
Where am I that every conceivable empty surface is covered with dollar bills -- 70 THOUSAND of them, give or take a few? Hint: an island with a great cheeseburger. Give up?
In Search of Eagles
Taking photos of wildlife is often elusive even when you know where to find them. We spent the day beachcombing on the far south end beach of this barrier island, conveniently where the eagles nest.
Goodbye Projects! Goodbye Dock!
This is why we work so hard on our floating home! Time to raise the sails and ENJOY!
How Many Hours for an Inch?
Nothing is ever easy on a boat ... but our windlass has returned from its cross country travels and is reinstalled ready to go anchor out at the barrier islands and enjoy some FUN for the next few days. Pay off in paradise!
Beep Beep! Pactor Modem Working Again
Good news! Our Pactor PTCII Pro modem is working again! Once again, we have reliable communications via our SSB radio whenever we're "out of range" for email.
Sailing A Ketch
Recently we learned maybe we should have been a bit more open minded when we were boat shopping. Sailing a ketch was something that David never considered. He wasn't familiar with it and wasn't going to sail one. I liked the multiple sail plan combinations, as did he, but familiarity won out and sv Winterlude is a sloop rigged, Passport 37. If you get the chance, sail a ketch before making your final decision.
Our Windlass Is Back!!!
A hearty welcome home to our Lighthouse 1501 Windlass! It's been off traveling cross country to California and back, preventatively being rebuilt so it can give us 11 more years of anchoring pleasure.
