Day 2 Back Aboard
Our 2nd full day back aboard. We're getting closer to being able to leave the dock & enjoy sailing again! I can't wait for the moment the diesel rumbles to a stop and there's only QUIET, the waves lapping at the hull & the seagulls squawking overhead.
Ecstacy or Agony? We’re HOME! Back Aboard!
Ecstacy & agony ... does anyone else ever feel a bit overwhelmed when you first step aboard after several months away?? No doubt, but now I'm sitting in the cockpit relaxing with a glass of wine & all's right with my world!
Unforgettable Buddy & a Forgotten Coast!
When we got a chance to get together with a buddy boat that we hadn't seen since we sailed from Panama to the Bay Islands for his birthday party in 2009, we jumped at it ... and in the process were introduced to a cruising area we didn't know existed! WIN WIN!!!
Boats Going Bump in the Night: Anchor Lights
Often when anchored in out of the way places ... or not so out of the way places, I worry about other boats seeing our dark hulled sailboat. Adding a Fuel Polishing System … Is It Enough?
Leaving a boat unattended for any period of time equates to increased "dirty" diesel issues. Here's how we solved (knock on teak!) our annual diesel fuel issues as commuter cruisers.
Do I Need a Whisker Pole?
When we bought Winterlude, our Passport 37, there was no whisker pole. Being one design racing sailors, one of the first things we added was a whisker pole ... and we use it all the time. Here's how and why ....
Should We Keep the Spinnaker Aboard?
Do we keep the cruising spinnaker? It takes up several cubic feet of space that we could use for other things, and it's always in the way. But when it goes "poof", magic happens and it's almost as good as when the diesel shuts down.....
Our 1st Time Aground
1998 ... first time aground ... our first time in a chartered sailboat just us, celebrating (?) David's 50th Birthday ... the charter briefing words echoing in our heads "you've either been aground, will be aground, or you're lying"!
