Today was a short trip, out under one bridge and in under another! Two bridges less than 5 miles apart and yet in totally different worlds. First the Sanibel Causeway bridge and then the Matanzas Pass bridge into Ft Myers Beach where, believe me, life is different!

But first notice the splash over the port bow as we approach the bridge. I give up, not worth wasting my breath!

Since there’s a cold front coming & not wanting to be somewhere we can’t get off the boat if it stalls, we opted to continue south to Ft Myers Beach where the city has a mooring field. We’ve never been to this mooring field but since it is protected from all wind directions and several degrees warmer than options to the north, it sounded like a good compromise.
We tried to sail for a short while but the wind was due south only a few knots and on the nose, so we motored on…

Our first time under this bridge was during a white squall in November 2001. We literally dropped the hook once we could see again and were gone by sunrise the next morning … Obviously before there was a mooring field. So we were totally unprepared for the culture shock of having beautiful state park barrier island beaches … complete with shells and sharks teeth … all to ourselves and WHAM, we’re immersed in spring break 2014. And it’s not even quite spring break time yet! More soon while we sit waiting for the cold front … both on the culture shock and on the mooring field.
Cheers! Jan
Time for a mojito and Yucatan shrimp at Doc Ford’s!!!
Hi Debbie … Doc Ford’s for Valentine’s Day … after a trolley ride to Lover’s Key State Park… doesn’t that sound perfect for the most romantic day of the year? 🙂 Happy Valentine’s Day one day early! Cheers! Jan
