Followed By Manatees?

At Burnt Store Marina/Charlotte Harbor, FL I loved the abundant manatees and dolphins playing by the boat.

My first Key West manatee! On the other hand, I have seen tarpon, which I never saw at Burnt Store. But I miss my dolphins.....

My first Key West manatee! On the other hand, I have seen tarpon, which I never saw at Burnt Store. But I miss my dolphins…..

So I was ecstatic to see our first Key West manatee today in the marina!

Back at Burnt Store, every morning, we’d have dolphins fishing by the stern of the boat and every morning and sunset, we had a parade of manatees – maybe a dozen? – swimming by on their way to sun themselves in the warm shallow marina waters.

Since we’ve been in Key West, the wildlife has been minimal, much to my dismay.  I keep hoping to hear the dolphins playing or manatees parading.  But alas, some things are not the same.

On the other hand,  it’s much warmer here — like 55 at Burnt Store and 70+ here.  Maybe the manatees will follow us all the way from Burnt Store Marina????    Keeping my fingers crossed.

  1. Hey guys, just found your blog (and I mean…like…2 minuets ago) and saw the Manatee in Key West post – as we’ve just had our 2nd Manatee encounter here at Stock Island Marina Village a couple of weeks ago too – maybe the same one you saw….so, by the looks of that Manta 42′ in the background, I would say that’s where you are??…or that’s where you were?? Anyway, will try to get caught up on your blog seeing as how I just found it. BTW, we are the catamaran at the fuel dock – Dock F. See ya.
